On Thursday, 13th March, Stroud Camera Club had the pleasure of welcoming renowned photographer Amy Shore for an insightful and inspiring evening. With a career spanning automotive, lifestyle, and wedding photography, Amy captivated the audience with her stunning imagery and her generous approach to sharing knowledge. The event attracted a significant number of external visitors, and we were delighted to host such an excellent evening.
Amy’s talk was a deep dive into her distinctive style and artistic vision. She explained that, for her, a car shoot is approached in much the same way as a people shoot—both require a keen eye for composition, storytelling, and emotion. She emphasized the importance of foreground interest, a technique she uses to add depth, context, and a sense of place to her images. Whether photographing a classic car winding through a misty mountain road or capturing the expressions of a driver in the moment, Amy always seeks to bring a unique perspective to her work.
One of the most compelling aspects of the talk was Amy’s discussion on developing a personal style. She encouraged photographers to think beyond technical perfection and focus on what makes an image distinctively theirs. Through a combination of creative framing, light manipulation, and an instinct for the decisive moment, she demonstrated how to turn ordinary scenes into extraordinary photographs. Her portfolio is a testament to this approach, filled with images that are not just technically excellent but also rich with atmosphere and storytelling.
Throughout the evening, Amy was incredibly open about her process, sharing valuable insights into how she plans and executes her shoots. From working with natural light to composing shots that feel dynamic and immersive, her practical advice resonated with both seasoned photographers and those new to the craft. She also spoke about the realities of working in the industry, the challenges of maintaining consistency in style, and the importance of staying passionate about one’s work.
Stroud Camera Club was thrilled to see so many visitors at the event, and we hope they enjoyed the evening as much as we did. Amy’s talk was not only a showcase of breathtaking photography but also a masterclass in creative vision, inspiring us all to look at our own work with fresh eyes. If you haven't already looked at her website, do take a look as it is simply stunning.
A huge thank you to Amy Shore for such an engaging and insightful presentation. We look forward to welcoming more fantastic speakers in the future and continuing to provide our members and guests with inspiring photographic experiences.
