This week, our club held a member showcase evening, inviting members to share three digital images each, all in the theme of “scapes.” In photography, a “scape” generally refers to any wide or expansive view of a scene. Common types include landscapes, cityscapes, and seascapes, capturing both natural and urban settings with a sense of scale and atmosphere.
The showcased entries covered an incredible range of subjects and styles. Some members presented imaginative cityscapes (including one built from Lego), while others included sweeping views of the African plains. Other images ranged from snowy mountain vistas, to sun-drenched, sandy beaches, each bringing a unique perspective and feeling to the theme.
Black-and-white (mono) conversions were thoughtfully crafted, with particular attention given to tonal range, creating impactful contrasts and depth. Several members noted challenges in adjusting tonal sliders in their editing software, underscoring the ongoing journey of mastering digital editing tools.
It was a night of creative exploration, with members sharing techniques, learning new approaches, and inspiring each other to see the art of ‘scapes’ in fresh ways.
