Summer Club Outing to the Fire Station
The Murk of last week gave way to torrential rain. Did this stop us or the Firemen? Certainly not. 16 of us were made very welcome by Red Watch, and the boys demonstrated their outstanding skills with high pressure hoses and massive cutting equipment. Our contact for most of the evening was Ash. Nothing was too much trouble for him and he happily posed with Fire fighting equipment in a full uniform which must have been very hot on such a stuffy night.
Apparently Stroud is the only Station with poles existing and Ash slid down and climbed up several times, Unfortunately the public aren’t allowed to do that any more, several of us would have liked the opportunity. We were taken upstairs to a lecture room and given a short explanation as to why the Fire Authority’s are welcoming people like us. Apparently a fellow called David Hamilton started public relations some years ago and the authority is carrying on with the good work. Nice one Diddy.
