Paper-Chain Challenge

by | Dec 10, 2017

Last club night of 2017 and it was Party Night. Plenty of food and plenty of fun was on the menu with some quizzes and a few games to bring out the competitive nature of some of the members.

Teams were challenged to build paper chains. I think Annie and Jennie were expecting something between 15 or 20 feet long what we got were nearer to 50 to 60 feet mark, up the hall and back again –  some of these chains took quite a licking.

Dragons
and
Bears

The finale was a series of wind-up drag races, culminating in a head to head between Green Dragon and Pink Bear.
Green Dragon had been on fire in the qualifiers and was the odds on favourite, always quick off the line and always keeping straight with very little guidance required from Roger the jockey. Pink Bear stuttered through to the final, requiring considerable hand on management from on board Cris, barely reaching the finishing line in some of the earlier races.

True to form Green Dragon was quick off the mark and took an immediate lead. Then disaster, Green Dragon swerved to the left parted company with Roger, meanwhile Pink Bear kept a more even route with just a little encouragement from Cris to keep things on track. A Rogerless Dragon was on the ropes, still quick but now aimless and with Cris’s handling skills the odds on favourite was usurped by Pink Bear.

Thanks to Ian Peters for capturing Pink Bear’s success in the video below.

Thanks to Annie and Jenny for running the evening.

Images capturing some of the fun and frolics can be seen below.
